I need to start a group called ”eBooks anonymous” to help me with my addiction.
When I see an offer for a free eBook filled with secrets to help me do anything better and faster, I give up my e-mail address right away. (Actually, I use a separate address for free stuff, to keep my main e-mail account from filling up too fast.)
If the eBook promises to share information I know I can use, I want it. Now. I don’t want to miss out on something that could bring me my next first million.
My goal is to absorb all of this information so I can continue to grow my business. And this week between Christmas and New Year’s is the perfect time to dig into the virtual pile of everything I’ve downloaded.
The reality is, I can’t read and absorb everything. Something has to give.
So as I make a list of goals for the New Year, I’m going to do a few things:
- Be realistic. I know I’ll keep downloading eBooks — I can’t resist — but if I don’t have a chance to read them, that’s OK.
- Be selective. From now on, after I download an eBook, I’ll read a few pages to see whether it’s worth reading. If not, I’ll delete it. And if while I’m reading it I realize the information stinks, I’ll dump it right away.
- Set aside 30 minutes every few days to tackle one or two eBooks. I’m a huge multi-tasker so I’ll combine reading with exercising, waiting for appointments or traveling.
I realize that even if I delete everything I’ve downloaded so far, I can click on almost any site and find more eBooks I don’t have time to read. Just knowing that that information is out there, though, continues to feed my addiction.
Anyone know of a good 10-step eBook program?
