Home office vs. a corporate office
Working Naked Day is over, but that doesn’t mean the celebration has to end. You can still enjoy the fact that you have the freedom to set your own hours, follow your own rules and live life on your own terms. Best of all, when your neighbor is scraping ice off his car in below-freezing weather, you can enjoy a cup of coffee while working in your pajamas.
No need to call in sick when you’re working from home
When my alarm went off this morning I got out of bed, took a few steps and then fell back into bed.
I feel crappy.
When you own your own business you can’t call in sick (who would you call anyway?), but in-between naps you can still handle a few tasks from your comfy bed or sofa.
That’s what I’m doing today, but first I’m going to have another cup of tea from the new mug Carrie Wilkerson, The Barefoot Executive, just sent me. (Thanks, Carrie!)
There’s always room for a home office
Some people tell me that they don’t have space in their home for a home office. But no matter what size home you have, there’s always room for a home office.
What’s your home office working style?
Organizing gurus who try to make you feel bad for not having a perfectly organized home office need to back off. Organization is a personal thing. No two people organize their home office the same way. So if you’re frustrated that you can’t keep your home office organized, stop blaming yourself. It’s not your fault. Maybe you’re fighting your natural working style.
In this Working Naked video, figure out which working style describes you and find out how you can keep your office organized.
Fixing your home office files
There’s nothing fun about filing (unless you use colorful or patterned file folders to make it a bit more interesting). But filing is something anyone working naked needs to know how to do. In this exciting, new, informative video (notice the hype) I’ll show you four ways to improve your filing system. Of course the alternative is to keep your papers stacked all over your office.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Take a close look at your business. Do you enjoy what you do? Do you take risks and make an effort to get out of your comfort zone? Maybe what you’re doing now is only a fraction of what you could be doing. In this video, learn ways to grow your business and make sure that one of the things you’re going to be when you grow up is happy.
Are you giving it up too easily?
After many takes, several lighting adjustments and extensive advice from a few video pros out there, I finally taped my first Working Naked video. In this video I share three ways to figure out what you should be charging for your product or services. If your fees are too high you may lose business. But if your fees are too low and you’re working too many hours for too little money, eventually you’ll resent your clients.
Chris Brogan wrote the perfect to-the-point post about charging what you’re worth. Check out his daily rate. If someone questions what you’re charging, remind them that they’re not paying for your time…they’re paying for your expertise.
After you’ve figured out whether or not you’re giving it up too easily, check out Dave Yankowiak’s interview with me on Anywhere Man. I was his first video interview or according to Dave, his “video guinea pig.” Look for more interviews to come on Dave’s info-filled, interesting and entertaining site.
What’s in your drawers?
If you look through the drawers in your desk, you may find a junk drawer or two. These are probably filled with things you didn’t know where to store, so you threw them into a drawer to deal with later. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Take some time to sort through these items and separate the useful from the useless. You’ll be able to find what you need when you need it.
Are you fooling around?
How much time do you waste every day? Learn three ways to save time so you can spend more time doing what you want to do instead of what you have to do.
